BREEN’s substantial, ongoing Civil Engineering services for client HMC, on this high-profile regional hospital replacement began in January 2007. Site Preparation: Demolition and grading plans for building pads and staging areas. Creation of utility plans necessary for removal and/or relocation of utilities needed in preparation for design-build construction.

In-Patient Tower (IPT) and Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center (MACC) Scoping Documents: These plans were drawn to a modified Design Development level for use in advertisement of this project for bid by design-build contractors.

Continuing Consultation. BREEN has been contracted to participate in the Design-Build Contractor Selection Process, and will provide Construction Administration and Peer Review of work performed by the Design-Build Team.

BREEN Engineering provided all necessary Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Design for the renovation of an existing space located at the 700 Westwood Plaza Level 'A' Simulation Center, UCLA. The new space will include classrooms, simulation rooms, offices, conference rooms and restrooms with a total area of approximately 12,500sq feet. Simulation rooms are designed similar to a hospital ward room with a bedrail system over each bed.

Kaiser Medical Office Buildings Improvements
Accessibility Barrier Removal
Pavement Replacement
Redesign Lab Waiting Area/Patio
Kaiser Locations include: Normandie, Bellflower, Carson, Lakeside, Orchard and Pasadena

Now nearing completion, BREEN Civil Engineering’s scope of work for Kaiser included redesign of approximately 71,000 total SF across several locations. Our work entailed preparing a SUSMP (standard urban storm water mitigation planning) and design of storm drain systems and grading for ADA accessibility ramps and for parking layouts. At the Orchard site, the Civil Engineers created value for Kaiser by utilizing existing catch basin and storm drains in our design and employing a “Cultec” stormwater system, as an alternative to a more costly pervious paving option. This also served to limit the amount of paving removal and replacement for the necessary barrier removal projects.

Taranaki Base Hospital
New Plymouth, New Zealand

Taranaki regional Base Hospital is going through an extensive upgrade program, including $80 million worth of improvements that include new surgical and EMT facilities and will increase the number of hospital beds. Stage one of the proposal will see two new operating theatres, ambulatory service and inpatient ward block, adding a range of specialist medical and surgical services to what will be one of the most modern facilities in the country. Taranaki Base Hospital is equipped to prevent the need for transfer of patients to larger cities such as Auckland, Waikato and Wellington wherever possible. BREEN is providing BIM documents and drafting for large New Zealand Engineering client, Beca.
