Pine Avenue Park
Los Angeles, CA

Almost 12,000 people live within ½ mile of Pine Avenue Park located in Maywood, the densest city in Los Angeles County. Our design work began in 2010 for this 6,600 square foot park, formally a vacant lot owned by the Maywood Water Company. Before the park was constructed, the surrounding neighborhood did not offer any park space for children, so although small, Pine Avenue Park plays a significant role in improving the quality of life for this community.

BREEN worked with The Trust for Public Land and EPT Design to help the community turn their wishes into reality, construction only took four months. BREEN prepared fence post and light pole footings, demolition, grading and drainage plans for the project. Design elements included a serpentine walking path, native plant gardens, shade structure, mosaic art installation by local artist, Jolino Beserra and picnic tables. Low-impact design treats all stormwater on site before it drains to the river. A lovely environment for parents and families to play outside and socialize.
