Science and Technology Building & Site Improvements
Santa Monica High School
Santa Monica High School is a large facility on a relatively small site.
Goals of the new Science and Technology Building include maximizing structural space while maintaining the existing amount of parking, relocating a displaced softball field, and replacing an existing natural sod football field with synthetic turf. Civil Engineering: The addition of the synthetic field created a significant impervious area. For BREEN to meet the City’s storm water management requirements, alternatives for limiting run- off had to be explored. Deep infiltration wells were initially proposed, but the infiltration rate was not conducive to such a limited interface. Currently, pervious pavements with large, gravel-filled percolation beds below are being designed to allow for a greater infiltration area and storage volume. Also included are site dimension, grading and utilities plans. Fire & Life Safety: BREEN provided new fire protection (sprinkler) design throughout the school. |
