Elementary School #9
LAUSD

This award-winning design consists of an entirely new urban elementary school project on a challenging 3-acre site on Firestone Boulevard in the City of South Gate. The structures consist of a three-story classroom building, including a preschool and one-story auditorium/cafeteria. A faculty parking lot, elementary playground, soccer field, preschool yard and grand entrance surround the buildings.

As an innovative approach to a flat site with problematic drainage, BREEN’s Civil Department designed 26-foot-deep infiltration wells to collect, treat and infiltrate stormwater. Other work included demolition plans, horizontal controls, grading, and utility construction documents, as well as offsite street improvement and street lighting plans prepared in accordance with the City of South Gate’s Department of Public Works requirements.

BREEN’s Building Systems Department (MEP) designed a new street lighting plan for Firestone Blvd. and Willow Street, using LED lights per the City of South Gate’s new standards. Also developed were street lighting master plans for the City’s future use.
